APRIL 25th
EARTH DAY TRASH AND TRAILS CLEANUP DAY
Honor the ideas and values of Earth Day by helping clean and improve Nockamixon State Park. We'll be picking up litter and working on trail maintenance. Please bring work gloves and any loppers or cutters you may have. Morning refreshements will be provided. We are meeting at the Marina. This is a great opportunity for scout groups to do community service! Please signup soon - we have a deadline of 4/18/2009 to get our names to the park.

3RD ANNUAL ROCKET DERBY - PRESENTED BY WEBELOS I, DEN 2
All scouts and their families are welcome for some good old fashion fun! You can play kickball, sing by a campfire, and even help in a skit and be the star of the show! Let's not forget about the FOOD! Come hungry and leave stuffed. Kids, get your parents to put the cat out and come camping! Additional information (including pricing) to be communicated soon.

Pack 196 had an amazing day at the Tohpendel District Pinewood Derby Finals (held this past Saturday in Quakertown).All the boys showed excellent sportsmanship, the scout spirit, and exemplified why Pack 196 is such a great group of kids. The entire Pack was very fast respective to the rest of the district, so many of our boys placed. Sean Ryan, Bears, won the overall competition and has brought home the "big" trophy for the Pack! As I write this, the trophy is being engraved with his name. We should have it back for display at the Blue and Gold Banquet.

The boys placing in the top 3 within their respective divisions are:

• Thomas Geiger, 2nd place, Wolves


• Sean Ryan, 1st place, Bears, 1st Place Overall


• Michael Susi, 2nd place, Weblos 1

We just had a FANTASTIC pack meeting! The program included presentation of the Pinewood Derby Awards (see below), general awards to each of the Dens, the Tiger flag procession, and an awesome presentation by Mad Science.

The Mad Science program was called "Fire & Ice" and was exactly that - several experiments involving fire and ice. The kids had an awesome time (so did most of us adults)! The Wolf Cubs recently had an outing to our local recycling center to see how our renewable waste is processed and contributes to a better environment.

WOW! What a great night of R-A-C-I-N-G! A HUGE thank you to all the parents who helped by setting up, tearing down, cleaning up, providing snacks, and generally being great role models to our boys.

The racing started right about 6:30 PM and ended about 9:00 PM - That's a great schedule considering we did over 50 heats (after including the sibling and adult races).

The track held up well and only needed some minor tweaking at one intersection. The timer and software worked like a charm; in fact I've posted some of the reports about the races (any of you Dad's want to do some anlysis of the cars, download the car and heat breakdown reports)!

We're storing the track away until next year...or maybe we should have another special summer derby this year! If anyone has additional Pinewood Derby pictures, please send them on to Mr. Larson - we'd love to include them in the Pack photos!
